More than 27 lakh persons rescued from drug addiction in 4 years : Report

According to Ministry of Social Justice & Rights recent survey report, positive results are visible in the campaign launched by the government against drugs smuggling and addiction among people, especially youths in urban as well as rural areas in the country about four years ago, in which more than 27 lakh people in the country have been found benefited and left taking drugs in past about four years. According to a recent report, nearly 8 crore persons are addicted to drugs at present in the country and efforts are being made to save and rehabilitate them. Of those addicted to the drugs so far nearly 13 crore persons have recently taken oath to leave drugs.

According to a recent survey by AIIMS New Delhi, nearly 21 crore people in 272 districts across the country are in the habit of taking drugs, which include nearly 8 crore persons in the country  severely addicted to the drugs in any form, among them nearly 5.7 crore people are addicted to liquor and nearly 25 lakh are taking intoxicated products like ‘bhang’, ‘ganja’ and intoxicated tablets, capsules and injections. More than 75 lakh people were detected having drugs like heroin, charas and cockien. Information also reveals that there are more than 650 drug de-addiction centres (Nasha-mukti Kendra) functioning in the country at present.
