Gurugram : RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat praises the “Bharatiya” approach to development, emphasizing its harmonious relationship with nature, in contrast to the Western model, which he described as focused on dominating nature. He urged Bharat to create its own development models that could serve as a guide for the world.
“Development is not possible without education, but this education should be Bharat-centric. We should take good ideas from around the world but never be blind followers. It is the responsibility of teachers to guide researchers for research which is based on the Bharatiya knowledge system,” the chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the BJP’s ideological mentor, said at the inaugural session of ‘VIVIBHA 2024: Vision for Viksit Bharat’, a three-day national researchers conference hosted by the Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal – Yuva Aayam in Gurugram’s SGT University on Friday.
“Today, 4% of the world’s population utilizes 80% of its resources, and development has brought with it environmental challenges,” Bhagwat remarked, addressing the global debate on choosing between development and sustainability.
He noted that until the 16th century, India was a global leader in various fields but lost its momentum. “We have already proven ourselves before, but now we need to view development in a comprehensive manner,” he said.
Prosperity Alone Does Not Bring Happiness– Bhagwat stressed the importance of the development of both the mind and material resources, stating, “Even with all prosperity, true happiness eludes us.” He cited political leaders’ personal stories to connect with the struggles of the people, adding, “Progress requires action, not just ideas.”
Challenges in Research and Education –The RSS Chief highlighted hurdles like bureaucratic red tape, which prevent meaningful advancements in research. “Today, education is seen as a $3-trillion industry, but its commercialization is concerning. If we proceed correctly, India can become the world’s number one nation in the next 20 years,” he said. Bhagwat called for empowering the nation through strength in mind, intellect, wealth, and resources, urging India to lead by setting examples rather than copying others.
India’s Vision in Space and Beyond –ISRO Chairman Dr. S. Somanath also addressed the conference, emphasizing India’s ambitious goals in space exploration. “With the success of the Chandrayaan mission, our target is to send humans to the moon and establish our own space station by 2040,” he said, underscoring the role of technology in realizing India’s vision of becoming a global leader.
Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi’s Perspective – Nobel Peace Laureate Kailash Satyarthi lauded the event and highlighted the significance of inclusive growth rooted in Indian traditions. “For the first time, 1,200 researchers from two lakh participants are under one roof. This initiative will illuminate the world,” he said.
Satyarthi concluded by reiterating the importance of giving back to society. “Indian philosophy teaches that true joy lies in sharing what we achieve. Only by eliminating selfishness can we realize the vision of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world as one family),” he said.
The conference set the stage for discussions on India’s path toward becoming a developed and sustainable global leader.
