Shashank Upadhye Redefines Pharmaceutical IP Learning at TeaNOTE

SAS Nagar (Mohali) : On 14th November, 2024, the Department of Pharmaceutical Management, NIPER S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali), in collaboration with TiE Chandigarh, set a benchmark for intellectual discourse by hosting the esteemed  Shashank Upadhye, Founding Partner of Upadhye Tang LLP, Chicago (IL). The TeaNOTE session, known for bridging academia and industry, reached new heights with this event, drawing over 150 attendees from NIPER and TiE Chandigarh.  This session marked a milestone in the TeaNOTE series, which has so far conducted over 35 enlightening discussions. Yet, this event stood out for its sheer magnitude and the depth of learning it provided. 

The session was graced by numerous figures like  Satish Kumar Arora, President of TiE Chandigarh; Advait Upadhyay, Treasurer & Joint Secretary;  Abhay Goel, Co-founder & CEO of LogicApt Global Accounting among others.

Upadhye, a globally renowned expert in pharmaceutical IP and FDA law, shared his extensive 28-year journey in the legal discussion of Para IV ANDA cases, patent litigation, and FDA strategies. His wealth of experience, gained through leading roles in industry giants like Apotex and Novartis-Sandoz, made him the ideal mentor for a session that aimed to unravel the complexities of pharmaceutical IP and FDA law.  The session began with a warm message from Dr. Anand Sharma, Professor of the Department of Pharmaceutical Management, who emphasized the importance of such interactions in shaping future pharmaceutical leaders. The audience, a mix of students, faculty, and industry professionals, was captivated as Mr. Upadhye delved into intricate topics, including the nuances of ANDA development, the strategic decisions behind Para III and Para IV filings, and the advantages of 505(b)(2) applications.

What set this TeaNOTE apart was  Upadhye’s engaging approach. By weaving in real-life cases and sharing both successes and blunders, he offered attendees invaluable insights into the legal and regulatory challenges of the pharmaceutical industry. Topics such as patent.
