Ambala: CIA Staff-I of Ambala police on a secret information that drugs are being smuggled in a truck from Delhi side to Punjab on the National Highway No. 1, police team led by Inspector Harjit Singh started checking of all suspected vehicles at a police barrier near grain market Mohra near Ambala Cantt and stopped a suspected vehicle and during checking recovered two quintal poppy husk and 5 kg opium of value worth Rs 25 lakh in international market.
Police team arrested two persons identified as Jagtar Singh and Lakhmit Singh, both residents of Kharar in Mohali district (Punjab) who said that they brought drugs from Bihar for delivery in Punjab. A case was registered at arao police station and the arrested accused were remanded to police custody for seven days to find out from where the drugs were procured and to be delivered.
SP Ambala Surinder Singh Bhadoria while taking to media persons said that in a special drive against drugs smuggling Ambala police has recovered drugs of value worth over Rs 16 crore 5 lakh in which 104 cases were registered this year which include 32 bulk drugs smuggling cases, 65 medium smuggling cases and seven cases of supply in which more than 166 persons were arrested by the police and sent to jails.
