Gurugram: Notorious gangster Saroj Rai originally from Sitamarhi in Bihar, reportedly involved in various criminal activities. He had a bounty of Rs 2 lakh on his arrest, was killed in a police encounter by a joint team of the Special Task Forces (STF) from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh Police in Gurugram. According to ACP Varun Dahiya, more than 30 rounds were exchanged during the confrontation. A jawan from the Bihar Special Task Force (STF) was also injured in the gunfire. A Bihari gangster, who had a bounty of Rs 2 lakh on his head was killed in an encounter in the Bar Gurjar area of Gurugram. Acting on intelligence from the Bihar Police, Gurugram Police established barricades at key locations upon receiving information that gangster Rai would be entering Gurugram from Nuh in the Manesar area. As soon as Rai reached near the Bar Gurjar Chowki area, he attempted to evade capture when the police attempted to intercept him, he opened fire on the police team.
Past scenario of Rai revealed, he entered into criminal activities in 2014 following the murder of Yatindra Khaitan a well-known medicine trader, since the killing was as a result of Khaitan’s refusal to meet Rai’s extortion demands, though his criminal activities were already linked to the killing of at least six other businessmen who had similarly declined his threats for money. Bihar Police although closely monitoring Rai’s criminal activities failed in their attempts to arrest him, announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for any information leading to his arrest when the bounty was raised to Rs 2 lakh on his head. The gangster was intercepted by a joint team of the Special Task Forces (STF) from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh Police in Gurugram. Information revealed that as many as 33 cases of hard core ctimes were registered against him.
Acting on intelligence from the Bihar Police, Gurugram Police established barricades at key locations upon receiving information that gangster Rai would be entering Gurugram from Nuh via Tawadu in the Manesar area. As Rai neared the Bar Gurjar Chowki area, he attempted to evade capture when the police attempted to intercept him, Rai opened fire on the police team. He suffered two gun shots at his chest and another on stomach during firing near village Bargurjar. He was rushed to the civil hospital bleeding heavily where the doctors declared him dead. Police recovered three pistols, four cartridges, 17 used bullets and a motorcycle which was being driven by one of his companions who managed to escape leaving the two-wheeler.
