Haryana Transport Minister Anil Vij to flag off 5 pollution free & air-conditioned Electric Buses

New buses will operate locally in Ambala as well as in other towns

Chandigarh :  Taking inspiration from metropolitan cities, electric buses will now be operated locally in Ambala, Haryana. Haryana’s Transport Minister, Anil Vij, will flag off these buses on January 26, Republic Day. Five electric buses will be included in the local bus service operating between Ambala Cantonment and Ambala City. Currently, 15 mini-buses are being operated by the transport department under the local bus service in Ambala, and five electric buses will now be added to this fleet. These new electric buses will run on the existing local routes. The modern electric buses will be pollution-free and air-conditioned, ensuring a smooth and comfortable travel experience for Ambala residents.

Vij said that, to achieve a zero-emission public transport system, Haryana State Transport has decided to introduce environmentally friendly electric buses under the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan 2020 (NEMMP) launched by the Government of India.Transport Minister Anil Vij also said that the government has decided to procure 50 electric buses for each of the 10 municipal corporations, which include Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Karnal, Panipat, Sonipat, Rohtak, Hisar, GMCBL (Gurugram Metropolitan City Bus Limited) and FMDA (Faridabad Metropolitan Development Authority), 

A total of 500 electric buses will be procured, he said these electric buses will be free from noise and air pollution.

Vij emphasized that alongside the repair and maintenance of electric buses, charging infrastructure, other necessary equipment and spare/service kits will also be provided. The operation of electric buses is a significant achievement for the Haryana government, as it is a unique project among all states in the country. The city bus service will benefit the citizens of these cities while ensuring zero air and noise pollution. Dedicated city bus service depots are being constructed in all these cities, and 375 buses have already been ordered by the government.

While talking to media persons, Transport Minister ecribed key features of electric buses, and said these buses will have 45 seats for passengers, along with space for 18 standing passengers, “There will be display boards for information on upcoming stops, 4 CCTV cameras for security, Panic buttons for emergencies, announcement speakers for route updates and in-built tracking system for real-time monitoring also. 

Local bus services are running on multiple routes between Ambala Cantonment and Ambala City, and electric buses will now be introduced via various routes between twin city Ambala City and Ambala Cantt covering large number of areas. Vij said this initiative is expected to provide eco-friendly, modern, and efficient public transport for Ambala and other cities in Haryana state.
