Karnal: Panic spread in the area near Yamuna river in Karnal due to the continuous death of more than 35 buffaloes belonging to cattle farmers from Punjab suddenly died causing a stir. Police reached the spot near Nagla Chowk on Meerut Road in Karnal and started investigating the case. The cattle keepers of Punjab were taking them towards Yamuna, river near the area said that as soon as the buffaloes drank water at the spot, they started running here and there uncontrollably and in a short while they started dying by falling at different places when some buffaloes were found lying in the fields and some on the roadside. Cattle keepers were seen searching for them all over in the area.
These cattle keepers, facing losses of lakhs, have accused the nearby factory involved in releasing most poisonous water containing chemicals in open. On getting information about the incident, a team of veterinarians and police reached the spot. Veterinarians have taken possession of the carcass of a buffalo and sent it for post-mortem, so that the real cause of death can be revealed. Meanwhile, the police is investigating the matter. Information revealed that large number of sheep had died earlier also : Animal keepers Saraydin, Alamdin, Ashu and other animal keepers said that as soon as the condition of the buffaloes deteriorated, they could not understand anything.
Later, people nearby told that at the same place about few months ago on 26 December 2024, 21 sheep had also died after drinking water containing chemicals. At that time, the factory owner had pacified the matter by giving compensation to the owners. This time when the deaths of buffaloes started, the factory owner immediately locked the factory and fled from the spot.
Cattle breeders say that the price of a buffalo is at least 50 thousand rupees, so the total loss can be up to 20 to 30 lakh rupees. They alleged that the factory owner should have kept the poisonous water covered, but due to his negligence this situation would not have happened today. They clearly said that if compensation is not received, they will file a complaint against the factory owner. Meanwhile, SHO Tarsem Chand of Sadar police station Karnal said that information has been received about the death of buffaloes near Nagla. There is a possibility of death due to drinking chemical water. In such a situation, a water sample has been taken and sent for testing. Further action will be taken after the investigation, he added.
