Amritsar: Amritsar police have arrested a accused here today for allegedly creating panic in the city while giving wrong information to the police as four bombs were planted around the Sri Harmandir Sahib.
This hoax bomb call put the Punjab Police on alert. A bomb disposal squad was rushed to the area and the entire area was comprehensively scanned. Though no bomb was found.
According to Police on June 3 during 1.30 a.m obnoxious call was received in the police control room wherein caller told the police that four bombs were fitted around the Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple). Thereafter, a heavy police force swung into action and a bomb disposal team reached the spot but nothing objectionable was traced out.
Police said that the caller initially told the police control room that four bombs were planted near the Sri Harmandir Sahib and cut off the phone. When police attempted to contact the caller, the phone was found switched off. Later, with in few hours police traced out the location of the callers and nabbed him who was around 20 years old with bad character. Police said that arrested accused was identified as Gagandeep Singh resident of walled city near the Sri Harmandir Sahib.
Police said that on being arrested, a phone used in the crime was also recovered which was stolen near the Sri Harmandir Sahib and after making a call to the police control room the sim card was damaged by the accused in order to destroy the evidence of crime.
Police said that the accused during the course of investigation confessed that he did a mischievous act to play pranks with police and public.
Police said that the accused was arrested under section 506, 182 of IPC and information technology act too.
Police said that earlier in the year of 2022 the accused was arrested in 363, 366-A, 376 ( rape act) in Batala.
