New Delhi : In a dramatic turn of events ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday accused the BJP-led central government and the Delhi Police of conspiring to “eliminate” its leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The party has urged the Election Commission to restore Kejriwal’s security cover, which was previously provided by the Punjab Police but later withdrawn.
At a press conference, Delhi Minister Atishi and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann leveled serious allegations, claiming that Kejriwal’s life was under threat due to a deliberate conspiracy orchestrated by the BJP and supported by the Delhi Police, which operates under the jurisdiction of the Union Home Ministry.
“Attacks have been attempted on Kejriwal repeatedly, and the perpetrators have not faced action,” Atishi stated. Referring to an alleged attack in October last year, she claimed, “Our investigation revealed that those involved were BJP workers, but the Delhi Police, acting under Union Home Minister Amit Shah, did not take any steps.”
The AAP leaders asserted that the Delhi Police had turned a blind eye to the alleged threats and accused the BJP of engaging in “dirty politics” ahead of the February 5 elections. They argued that the removal of Kejriwal’s Punjab Police security cover was a deliberate move to weaken his safety.
“We have no faith in the Delhi Police as it is under the control of Amit Shah. This is why we have written to the Election Commission, demanding the restoration of Kejriwal’s security cover provided by the Punjab Police,” Atishi added.
Bhagwant Mann echoed these concerns and called for an independent audit of the alleged life-threatening incidents involving Kejriwal. He stressed that a fair and secure environment for campaigning must be ensured by the Election Commission.
As of now, there has been no official response from the BJP or the Delhi Police regarding the allegations.
The allegations come amid a high-stakes electoral battle in Delhi, with the AAP seeking a third consecutive term in power and facing strong challenges from the BJP and the Congress. The accusations of a security lapse surrounding the AAP supremo have further heightened tensions in an already heated political atmosphere.
The Election Commission is yet to respond to AAP’s demands. Meanwhile, Kejriwal’s security arrangements remain a contentious issue as the campaign trail intensifies.
