Newly formed Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab making tall announcements to attract people in the state allegedly taking wrong decisions under the influence of power which is likely to cause rift between people in Haryana and Punjab state. Maan government in Punjab recently after coming to power approved proposal in their Vidhan Sabha session for handing over Chandigarh to Punjab, which was strongly condemned by all political parties in Haryana state.
Talking to media persons, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khatter said, Punjab government has no power to take such decisions themselves which are to be taken only by government in the centre. He said, instead of having dreams to take over Chandigarh Punjab government first solve other long pending issues between both states which include supply of SYL canal water to Haryana state of their share for which Supreme Court of India has already given decision in favour of Haryana state being violated by Punjab state government which is merely a case of contempt of Court against Punjab government. He said, there are nearly 400 Hindi speaking villages adjacent to Punjab which are to be handed over to Haryana state with immediate effect,
Information reveals, this is not first time Punjab government has been making claim over Chandigarh as their capital but seven times in past about two decades, besides having a separate High Court in their Vidhan Sabha sessions in the year 2002, 2005 and 2017 and such claims have no value unless approve by the government in centre. Haryana Chief Minister cautioned people in Punjab state presently having a unbalanced government taking steps to raise differences between people of both Punjab and Haryana states by taking wrong decisions soon after forming the government instead of taking beneficial steps welfare of residents in their state.
Meanwhile, on the issue of claim over Chandigarh, Himachal government too has demanded 7.19% share over Chandigarh as well as Bhakra Beas Management Board and are going to have a meeting in this regard in their Vidhan Sabha session on April 15, 2022 and in case of of having no action all political parties in Himachal will hold a protest till having its share on Chandigarh. Even after 56 years Haryana was separated from Punjab as an independent state the issue of separate capitals has not been solved and Chandigarh holds status of a Union Territory. The issues between Punjab and Haryana, which include supply of SYL canal water to Haryana of their share, separate capitals and separate High Courts are lingering on unsolved by the government so far. Chandigarh was identified as capital of Punjab states in1953 and Haryana was declared a separate state in 1966 when Chandigarh was declared joint capital for both states in which Punjab was having 60% share and Haryana identified holding 40% share.
Haryana state government in a special one day Vidhan Sabha session attended by large number of MLAs in the state strongly condemned new AAP government in Punjab having approved their claim over Chandigarh as their capital for which decision is to be taken by government in the centre thus disturbing peace among people of both states instead of creating beneficial work for people in the state. As many as eight proposals were passed in a day’s Vidhan Sabha session at Chandigarh, which include Haryana state having 40% claim over Chandigarh as their capital, immediate supply of water of Haryana share from SYL claim as per Supreme Court of India decision in favour of Haryana state and avoid contempt of court action, handover 400 Hindi speaking villages adjoining Haryana state without delay. MLAs from all political parties in Haryana state advised AAP government in Punjab to behave like a Elder Brother not like a Big Brother. Leader of opposition in Haryana Vidhan Sabha Bhupinder Singh Hooda said, every political leader as well as resident in the state will fight for their right over Chandigarh as their capital and their share in SYL canal water.
