Akal Takht declares SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal Tankhaiya

Amritsar : Jathedar Akal Takht Gyani Raghbir Singh on August 30  has  declared SAD president and former Punjab deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal Tankhaiya ( Sentenced to a religious punishment) as per Sikh rituals for extending severe damages to Sikh interests and party during their government 2007 to 2017  in Punjab as deputy CM .

Addressing the gathering in front of Akal Takht, Jatehdar Akal Takht said that Sukhbir Singh Badal during his tenure in the Punjab Government from the period 2007 to 2017 as Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab  took such decisions which extended damage to Sikh Panth as well as Sikh face.

At the same time Jathedar has also asked the entire Sikh cabinet ministers for the period of 2007- 2017 to appear at Akal Takht since they were also equally responsible for the damage extended to Sikh Panth and asked them     to submit their written clarification within fifteen days at Akal Takht.

Jathedar asked Sukhbir Badal to appear at Akal Takht within fifteen days as a humble Sikh to seek apology for his sins towards Sikh Panth, adding that Sukhbir would remain tankhaiya until then.

Jathedar said Sukhbir Singh Badal declared tankhaiya as per Sikh tenets during the meeting of five Sikh high priests.

After the meeting the decision to declared Sukhbir Singh Badal as tankhaiya was pronounced by the Jatehdar Akal Takht as per long coming traditions of the Sikh community.

However,  Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Thursday appointed senior leader Balwinder Singh Bhundar as the party’s working president.

“Sukhbir Singh Badal has appointed senior party leader Balwinder Singh Bhundar as Working President of the party,” SAD leader and former Punjab Minister Daljit Singh Cheema posted on X.

Badal has sought “unconditional forgiveness” for “all mistakes” committed when the SAD was in power in Punjab.

Earlier, the Akal Takht Jathedar had asked Badal to appear before the highest temporal seat of Sikhs in person, following allegations levelled by the rebel leaders.

The former Punjab deputy chief minister submitted his explanation on July 24.

In his letter, Badal said he was a “humble servant” of the Guru and dedicated to the Guru Granth Sahib and the Akal Takht.

 A section of SAD leaders had revolted against Badal, asking him to step down as the party chief following the party’s debacle in the Lok Sabha polls in Punjab.
