Alert at MM (Deemed) University as 254 ‘Kashmiri’ students face threats

District administration Ambala declared alert and deployed huge police force in the campus of Maharishi Markandeshwar University (MM Deemed University) at Mullana in Ambala district after tension gripped the area after killing of 40 CRP men at Pulwana terrorist attack in Kashmir valley.

The trouble started after release of video having objectionable remarks along with photographs of dreaded terrorists on social media by the students hailing from Kashmir valley studying in the university and news spread that few students closely related to terrorists expressing joy and distributed sweets after unfortunate Pulwama incident.

The residents of the area along with members of Mullana Panchayat led by Naresh Chauhan Sarpanch and Bajrang Dal led by Bhanu Partap Singh served an ultimatum to students from Kashmir studying in the university to vacate the area within 24 hours.

Girish Kumar SDM, Sudhir Taneja DSP Barara and Harbhajan Singh SHO Mullana on getting information reached university campus along with police force.

According to sources, 254 students from Kashmir are studying in MM Deemed University, of them nearly 100 students are saying in university hostel and remaining 154 students staying outside in over a dozen paying guest houses or in rented rooms in adjoining Mullana and Barara area.

Bhanu Partap Singh said that most of the students staying in PG houses or private accommodations are involved in antisocial activities and no action is being taken by the police in spite of fact complaints lodged with the police many times.

He also produced messages, chatting by ‘Kashmiri’ students on Watts-up and Face Book expressing happiness, abusing Indians and distributing sweets by three students closely related to dreaded terrorists after Pulwama incident as such agitated residents of area gave ultimatum to ‘Kashmiri’ youths to leave within 24 hours.

Sources revealed that nearly 80 ‘Kashmiri’ students, some of them suspected having doubtful character, have already left for Kashmir and large number of students staying in PG houses has shifted to university hostels.

On the complaint, two ‘Kashmiri’ youths identified as   Ajhar-ul-Islam and Junaid were beaten by the students on February 17 in the university campus, DC Ambala Sharandeep Kaur Brar and SP Ambala Aastha Modi reached MM Deemed University campus along with huge police force to control situation and a meeting with the university staff continued till night.

Sources revealed that as many as 30 ‘Kashmiri’ students had already left university campus till evening and 10 female ‘Kashmiri’ students having packed their luggae expressed desire to leave for  their homes till the situation normalize and were sent to the bus stand under police custody. However, both DC and SP Ambala assured full security to the students.
