Shashi Tharoor and Gurjeet Aujla met city dignitaries,The main demand was to open Wagah Border Trade
Amritsar, May 26 – Former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor today promised the businessmen of Amritsar that as soon as the Congress government is formed at the Centre, the trade corridor will be opened, the policy for custom duty which is 200 percent will be revised and packages will be given to small scale industries.
Shashi Tharoor was addressing a business conference with Congress Lok Sabha candidate Gurjeet Singh Aujla at Hotel Holiday Inn today. During this, the dignitaries of the city expressed their views and discussed about the difficulties they were facing during the BJP rule for the last ten years.
Representatives from CII, Voice of Amritsar, FICCI, Phulkari, Indo-Pak Trade, Textile Manufacturing, Doctors and Real Estate attended the business conference, who presented the main problems of the city before Shashi Tharoor and Gurjeet Singh Aujla. First of all, Shashi Tharoor said that at this time people want change and the change that has come in so many years is not Hindutva but Moditva. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s photo everywhere is now embarrassing him at many places.
After that, Shashi Tharoor praised Gurjeet Singh Aujla and said that the residents of Amritsar are very lucky to have such a hardworking leader who did not care about himself during the attack on Parliament and saved the lives of the people, for which he should get an award. After this, the question-and-answer round started in which the traders of the city first put forward demands for perishable goods like cargo, dry ports etc. To which Gurjeet Singh Aujla replied that this demand is already in his agenda and he will fulfil it, all that is needed is the support of the people. After this, while answering continuous questions, Shashi Tharoor and Gurjeet Singh Aujla said that they want a convention centre to be built in Amritsar but it should be at a place where there is parking facility and easy movement.
During this, on the question of real estate sector not getting the status of industry, Shashi Tharoor and Gurjeet Singh Aujla said that whatever policies have been made in the last ten years, opinion has been taken only from some big houses whereas real estate is available to every small business.
After this, while addressing the press conference, Shashi Tharoor and Gurjeet Singh Aujla said that many such questions have emerged in the business meet which are very important for the trade of Punjab and Amritsar. Gurjeet Singh Aujla said that he has worked with Shashi Tharoor ji before and will do so in future also. He wanted Tharoor ji himself to come and learn about the trade of Amritsar so that when he becomes an MP again and put these problems before him, the solution could be found as soon as possible. He said that he will make new plans but work on the old plans will also continue so that the old business does not come to an end. The traditional industry will also be highlighted again. On the question of giving ministerial post to Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Shashi Tharoor said that he wants that he should definitely get it because Gurjeet Singh Aujla deserves it.
