New Delhi ; Union Law minister Arjun Ram Meghwal have questioned the Mamta Banerjee government for introducing a legislation in rape and murder case when three new criminals laws have already been introduced in the month of July. The rape and murder Incident of a doctor is shameful but Bengal govt. is not doing what they should do. Meghwal was speaking in a seminar “ Making Women safe –how the three criminal laws can protect women, organized by Women Journalist Welfare Trust in New Delhi. Referring to the Aparajita Women and Child Bill 2024, the Minister said “the three new criminal laws are sufficient”. The Bengal Assembly unanimously passed the Aparajita Anti-Rape Bill which proposes capital punishment for a rapist if the victim is found dead.
Citing the benefits of the three new criminal laws, Meghwal said the laws have been introduced after thorough consultation , the government aims to provide justice to the people with developments in Technology and Forensic Science. Women Victim will not have to roam around for registering an FIR as we have provision of Zero FIR, e-FIR and a complaint can be filed from wherever she wants.
Addressing the women Journalist in the seminar, The Special Commissioner of police, Training, Chhaya Sharma said, now it has been mandatory to provide a copy of the FIR to the victim also, earlier it was only given to the accused. Now charge-sheets will be filed in a proper way, it will be technically and digitally strong.
The Three criminal laws Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS)2023, Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)2023 and Bhartiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) 2023 came into effect From July 2024. The Union Minister also praised the women Journalist for organizing the seminar on the new criminal laws. Varun chugh partner of Alpha legal was also present in the seminar.
