“Australia won the ODI series 2-1 after defeating India in the third match of the series on Wednesday in Chennai. It was India’s first ODI series defeat on home soil since 2019. India not only lost the series but also the top spot in the One-Day International rankings to Australia. After losing the series, India fell to second in the ICC One-Day International standings, level with Australia on 113 rating points.

After losing the opening match, Australia won two in a row to win the series 2-1. They outperformed Indian batsmen and dominated on Indian pitches with their bowlers. It will provide Australia with a psychological lift ahead of the One-Day International World Cup in India in October.

Australia scored 269 runs in 49 overs after deciding to bat first. Kuldeep Yadav and Hardik Pandya both claimed three wickets. Virat Kohli made 54 runs in India’s chase but couldn’t save his team from defeat.

On the other hand, the Indian batsmen gave a dismal performance and fell short of expectations. Only KL Rahul was able to score a century, but the other hitters, including Rohit, Virat, Shubham Gill, and Pandya, all failed to convert their innings into huge ones despite having a solid start. Surya Kumar Yadav let down his fans by failing to score a single run in this series and striking out in all three innings.

India won the first game of the series in Mumbai. Team India was bowled out for just 117 in the second ODI at Visakhapatnam, which was their lowest-ever total in ODIs played against Australia at home, and the Australian team responded by crushing them by 10 wickets.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma rued the lack of partnerships in India’s chase and said one of the top batters should have carried on and got the job done. He pointed out the Indian batters for their poor performance and said, “I don’t think it was too many runs (269). The wicket was a little challenging towards the second half. I don’t think we batted well. Partnerships are crucial, and we failed to do that today,”

Rohit Sharma said at the post-match presentation, “The mode of dismissals… You are born and brought up on these wickets. Sometimes you need to apply yourself and give yourself a chance. It was important for one batter to carry on and take the game deep. But all of us were trying our best; it just didn’t happen,” he added.
