*Shockingly 5 districts in Haryana have less than 900 females per 1000 males
Shockingly, the five districts in Harya state have less than 900 females per 1,000 males at birth, which include Rohtak at 883, Mahendergarh at 887, Sonipat at 894, Charkhi Dadri and Rewari at 897 each in the year 2023 despite the state sex ratio at birth (SRB) ha been identified as 916 at present, said Additional Chief Secretary (health) G Anupama while addressing a state-level stakeholder meeting on ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) programme on Saturday. She said that more than 52,000 girls have been saved since the rollout of this programme in Haryana.
The sex ratio at birth is a comparison of the number of girls born with the boys in a certain year which helps authorities tackle the imbalance caused by the rampant gender-biased sex selection practices. G Anupama disclosed that the five districts in Haryana having less than 900 females per 1,000 males at birth are Rohtak, Mahendergarh, Sonipat, Charkhi Dadri and Rewari which need immediate attention by the government. She said that more than 52,000 girls have been saved since the BBBP programme was launched in Haryana on January 22, 2015, by the Prime Minister from Panipat with the joint efforts by the women and child development department, National Health Mission (NHM) and education department working closely with monitoring regularly.
Anupama said that Implementation of Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC-PNDT) Act, Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act, regular sensitisation of police, prosecution and health department on PC-PNDT, MTP Acts, curbing online and over the counter sale of MTP kits are important to curb death of newborns prior to the birth. All approved MTP centres need to be audited to check illegal MTP and abuse of MTP kits. The state headquarters will conduct monthly meetings with all districts through video conference regularly, she added that the health department to ensure early registration of every pregnancy and focus group discussions and campaigns to make people aware of PC-PNDT and MTP laws and their implications on society and the monitoring system needs to be strengthened in rural areas to be conducted by the civil surgeons with the assistance of Indian Medical Associations (IMA) with timely registrations of births .Commissioner and secretary, women and child development Amneet P Kumar present at the occasion said that there is need for the general public to be aware of the PC-PNDT and MTP laws.
