With the BJP-led Delhi government gearing up to present its first budget later this month, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has ramped up consultations with key stakeholders to shape the ‘Viksit Delhi Budget.’ Expected to be tabled between March 24 and 26, the budget comes amid mounting political pressure over the BJP’s poll promise of financial aid to women.
On Wednesday, Gupta led discussions with women’s groups at the ‘Mahila Samvad’ held at the Delhi Vidhan Sabha, where concerns about security, financial empowerment, education, CCTV installations, and sanitation facilities took center stage. She assured participants that their inputs would be factored into the budget.
“We had an extensive dialogue with women’s organizations to understand their expectations for the 2025-26 budget. Key issues related to women’s empowerment and welfare were discussed, and their recommendations will be given due consideration,” Gupta said.
As part of a broader outreach strategy, she also engaged with private school associations, reaffirming the government’s commitment to improving the education system. “Our vision is to collaborate with schools to ensure that Delhi’s education system becomes the best in the country,” she said.
Additionally, Gupta met with trade organizations at the Delhi Secretariat and announced plans to visit slum areas over the next three days to interact directly with women and youth.
“This budget will reflect the aspirations of Delhiites,” she asserted, underscoring the BJP’s commitment to fulfilling its electoral promises.
Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has escalated pressure on the BJP government, putting up posters across the capital demanding the immediate rollout of the promised Rs 2,500 monthly financial assistance to women by March 8.
Responding to AAP’s campaign, Gupta dismissed the accusations of delay. “Nobody needs to remind us how many days are left. We will work according to our agenda; they will not dictate it,” she said.
With the BJP securing a decisive victory in last month’s Delhi Assembly elections, the upcoming budget—dubbed the “Janta Ka Budget” by Gupta—will serve as a crucial test of the party’s governance strategy and ability to deliver on its promises.
