Bulk drug park coming up in Raigad district of Maharashtra

Mumbai: A Bulk Drug Park (BDP) is coming up in Raigad district of Maharashtra with capacity to provide medicines to the entire nation and should involve the locals, according to state chief minister Uddhav Thackeray. 

This ambitious project is proposed to be established on land across 17 villages in Murud and Roha Talukas of Raigad — in which no village will be relocated – Thackeray said while noting that this Rs 30,000-crore project will generate 75,000 jobs with priority for locals.  

 Highlighting ‘sons of the soil’ being employed and given required skills training in this project, he urged for a ground level survey to protect horticultural land wherever possible and also for preparation of a comprehensive blueprint with the locals to ensure they got the best compensation for their land.

Minister of industries Subhash Desai said that that this project will be set up under the Indian Bulk Drug Park Development alongside follow up with the union government, besides compensation for land acquisition and 10 percent developed land being provided for PAP. While this land can be used for commercial, industrial and residential purposes, skill development centers will be set up for locals to assure them of getting jobs, he said.

 Minister of state for industries, Aditi Tatkare said that processed sewage water would be disposed 10 kilometers away from the coastline to avoid affecting fishing activities. The bulk drug parks would be utilizing their corporate social fund (CSR) for strengthening civic amenities and welfare schemes for the villages, she said. 

 With the park project implementation under the Central chemical and fertilizer ministry,  this will boost setting up of the bulk drug Park (BDP) while providing infrastructure at par with global standards for manufacturing medicines and minimizing production cost of medicines for drug manufacturing industries to become more competitive and make the nation self-reliant, Tatkare said, adding that thethree bulk drug parks will be provided financial assistance for setting up the infrastructural facilities.
