Chandigarh: Conceding the long pending demand of the local farmers of 17 villages of Bagha Purana Assembly Constituency, the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Thursday gave approval to sanction Rs.13 crore for immediate upgradation and relining of ‘Sivia Water Channel’ in Moga district.
A delegation led by Chairman Block Samiti Gurcharan Singh Cheeda called on the Chief Minister in the presence of his OSD Sandeep Singh Brar at official residence this afternoon, which expressed gratitude for this benevolent gesture.
Taking prompt cognizance of the matter, the Chief Minster directed the Water Resources department to undertake the work of its up-gradation and relining at the earliest to enable the local farmers to get adequate water for their crops.
Raising the issue of dilapidated condition of Sivia water channel, the delegation demanded the same to be strengthened immediately so as to enhance its water carrying capacity from 30 to 75 cusec. However, the delegation said that the existing water capacity was much less due to its fragile condition and led to frequent breaches thereby adversely impacting the water supply to the fields.
