Amritsar, July 4 -The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Harjinder Singh Dhami has suspended 51 employees in the case of administrative irregularities found in Langar (community kitchen) Sri Guru Ramdas at Sri Darbar Sahib.
Sharing information in this regard, SGPC secretary Partap Singh said that an investigation was ordered through SGPC’s flying department after this matter came to the notice, and this action has been taken as per the investigation report. He said that the suspended employees include managers, supervisors, storekeepers deputed at Langar Sri Guru Ramdas, and gurdwara inspectors who performed the duties at that time. He said that out of these 51 suspended employees, 2 storekeepers were suspended during the preliminary investigation.
Meanwhile, SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami has said that any negligence and irregularity in the Gurdwara management will not be tolerated. He said that the religious sentiments of the Sangat (community + devotees) are associated with the Gurdwaras, and representing these sentiments is the primary responsibility of the managers and employees of the Gurdwaras. Whoever harms the Gurdwara management will not be spared, he added.
Meanwhile, Bhagwant Singh Dhangera has been appointed as the General Manager of Sachkhand Sri Darbar Sahib, who was posted as in-charge at the SGPC’s sub-office in Chandigarh.
SGPC secretary Partap Singh said that apart from the appointment of Bhagwant Singh Dhangera as the new General Manager, additional manager Nishan Singh has been entrusted with the responsibility of managing Sarais (inns). Manager Narinder Singh has been posted at Gurdwara Shaheed Ganj Baba Deep Singh Ji. Satinder Singh, who was working as a supervisor in the SGPC’s purchase department has now been appointed as an additional manager at Sri Darbar Sahib and given the charge of management of Langar Sri Guru Ramdas.
Earlier, last week the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has suspended two employees for alleged embezzlement of funds worth Rs 1 crore and ordered a high-level probe, officials said on Saturday.
The accounts division of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) detected the alleged financial irregularity.
Taking swift action, the apex gurdwara body had suspended two employees for the alleged embezzlement and ordered a high-level inquiry, he said.
Satbir Singh, an officer on special duty to SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami, had said two storekeepers in the community kitchen were suspended for the alleged irregularity.
They were held responsible for not depositing the money in the gurdwara body’s account after selling stale food.
The storekeepers were accountable for disposing of waste — stale chapatis, rice and other materials — to industrial units that make food products (cattle feed) for cattle.
The money collected from selling stale food between 2019 and 2022 should have been deposited in the SGPC account.
