CBI booked 12 persons including 9 officers of Jagadhari Railway Workshop iron scrap scam

Yamunanagar: On the order of General Manager Northern Railways Shobhan Chowdhury, the alleged railway scrap scam exposed in Jagadhari Railway Workshop by the railways vigilance department from New Delhi was handed over to the CBI for investigation, which after the investigation has on 26th May 2024 booked as many as 12 persons including nine senior officers of the railway workshop and three representatives of private firms purchased iron scrap from the railway workshop, found involved in the conspiracy of alleged fraud going on in the railway workshop since a long time.

According to information, huge stocks of iron scrap in this railway workshop was being sold to the private firms purchasing scrap from the railway workshop officers in much higher quantity as compared to the weight specified in the delivery challans, since a chip was affixed in the weighing machine installed inside the railway workshop, as detected by the railway vigilance team arrived from New Delhi which during raid took into possession three loaded trucks parked outside the railway workshop and during investigation found that the weight of iron scrap loaded in these trucks was much higher than the specified in delivery challans issued by the railway workshop officers. The vigilance team also seized all three trucks, as such GM Northern Railways handed over the case to CBI for investigation in the embezzlements going on in the railway workshop for a long time to CBI for investigation.

CBI team after investigation in this scam seized the chip affixed in the weighing machine and also observed that all CCTV cameras installed in this part of the railway workshop were found not working and ordered registration of cases on 26th April 2024 under the various sections of IPC against the nine railway officers including some of the ranks of CDMS, including two Railway Protection Force (RPF) officers and three representatives of private firms purchased iron scrap those were identified as Amrit Pal Singh Chief Department Material Supervisor, Jasminder Singh, Meghraj Singh, Mohan Lal, Gurmeet Singh, Ramesh Chander, Vinod Kumar,  Gurmeet Gulati, Arvind Kumar along with three representatives of firms purchased iron scrap identified as Chander Shekhar of KC & Sons, Ramesh Kumar of Vishal Traders and Mandeep annual maintenance contractor.

According to the CBI officer, all three trucks loaded with extra quantities of iron scrap as well the chip illegally affixed in the weighing scale installed inside the railway workshop, which used to display 865 kg iron scrap instead 1076 kg iron scrap have been taken into the possession. Surprisingly, it was found that the iron scrap was containing a large amount of costly spare parts used in the railway engines, including pistons of diesel engines, piston exhaust manifolds, loco machinery parts, GI pipe and other steel components which were being supplied to the scrap buyers as iron scrap.
