CBI raid at DRM office, 2 officers arrested taking Rs 1.5 lakh bribe

Ambala:   Corrupt officers have not spared even railways department. CBI investigation team from Chandigarh conducted surprise raid at the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) office Ambala Cantt which continued for 13 hours till late night on Tuesday in which two officers including Indian Railway Service of Signal Engineer (IRSSE) Vivek Kumar and his Chief Office Superintendent Praveen Kumar were arrested allegedly demanded and accepted Rs 1.5 lakh bribe from a contractor for release of payment against his bill. The complainant had produced video call recording demanding bribe prior to release of payment along with the complaint to CBI. However, CBI officer refused to say anything to media persons or allowed to collect photographs of arrested accuse. Both arrested accuse were be produced in CBI court Chandigarh on Wednesday.

According to information, a complaint along with telephone recording had with Paveen Kumar demanding bribe for release of payment against bill was made to CBI which constituted a plan to trap IRSSE officers in CBI  net and handed over the amount to complainant enabling to arrest corrupt railway officers red handed while accepting bribe amount. CBI team first arrested Praveen Kumar, followed by the arrest of his boss Vivek Kumar and succeeded in their plan. CBI team seized all record files, copy of bills submitted by the contractor and all other files related to signal and tele call department. There was a complete silence in entire DRM office complex during CBI raid. According to information, few other railway officers are also suspected involved in this case.

Information reveals, about nine years ago CBI had raided DRM office at Ambala and arrested a Junior Engineer in the office of Deputy Chief Engineer (Construction) while accepting Rs 15000 bribe from a contractor in view of refund of Rs 2.25 lakh  Earnest Money and also Bank Guarantee  submitted along with the tender, which were not being returned to the contractor since a lng time for reason or the other.
