Central University of Punjab obtained third rank in National Water Awards 2022

Bathinda, May 23: The Central University of Punjab has obtained the third rank in the ‘Best Institution for Campus Usage’ category of the National Water Awards 2022. The Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources (DWR), River Development (RD), and Ganga Rejuvenation (GR), has announced the winners of the 4th National Water Awards, 2022 for various categories in the field of water resources conservation and management.

The letter from the Ministry of Jal Shakti related to this update has been received by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari recently. As per this letter, this award will comprise a trophy, a citation, and a cash prize. The Ministry will present these awards to winners during the Water Awards 2022 ceremony to be organized in due course.

In view of the importance of water resources management in our country, the Ministry of Jal Shakti, DWR, RD and GR have instituted the National Water Awards with the aim to sensitize the public about the importance of water and motivates them to adopt the best water usage practices.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari congratulated CUPB fraternity on this accomplishment. He appreciated Dr. Sunil Mittal (Dean, School of Environment and Earth Sciences) and Dr. J.K. Patnaik (HoD, Dept. of Geology), Dr. P.K. Sahoo (Dept. of Environmental Science and Technology), Prof. Sanjeev Thakur (Dept. of Botany), Er. Saurabh Gupta (Executive Engineer), and Er. Puneet (Junior Engineer) for contributing to the effective management of water resources in the university and submitting the report to the Ministry.

Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari informed that the Central University of Punjab has a state-of-the-art facility for water resource conservation, management, and judicious use of water on campus. The university has modern infrastructure for reuse of sewerage treatment water, rainwater harvesting, drip irrigation, and water-efficient fixtures. The CUPB administration is committed to saving every drop of water as our university is located in a water-scarce region of Punjab.

Prof. R.P. Tiwari asserted that this accomplishment has encouraged all stakeholders of the university to make the Central University of Punjab a model Institution in India where all water resources will be managed in a scientific manner.
