Chief Minister Mann honours LPU Students with trophy at Punjab’s inter-university youth festival

Jalandhar: Hon’ble Chief Minister of Punjab Bhagwant Mann honoured Lovely Professional University (LPU) students with 2nd Runner-Up trophy for Punjab’s inter-university youth festival. More than 3,000 students from 30 varsities across the state had participated in the competitive event. Winning a huge haul of 19 medals, including 3 Gold, 10 Silver & 6 Bronze; LPU students are awarded with the trophy for exhibiting versatile talent for ‘Punjab & Punjabiyat’.

It was announced again and again from the fest’s podium that LPU is the only private university of the state to be among top three for upholding and promoting Punjabi culture at its campus. Other winners included Punjab University at first place and Punjabi University, Patiala at 2nd place. Including most of the Punjabi folk items at the fest, the toughest competition of LPU was with other teams of GNDU Amritsar and PAU Ludhiana.

The Punjab State’s Department of Sports and Youth Services had organized a three-day inter-university youth festival, at Punjabi University in Patiala City of the Punjab. The objective of the festival was to provide the youth an opportunity to showcase their art, and to get them connected with their roots & heritage. Initiated in 2013; this fourth edition in 2022 helped state’s initiative in realising perfectly the dream of ‘Rangla Punjab’.

LPU Chancellor Dr Ashok Kumar Mittal congratulated the winning students’ teams and their mentors on grand success. Dr Mittal also especially praised various students of other states and territories who imbibed ‘Punjabiyat” to the core and brought laurels to LPU. Continuing Dr Mittal shared: “We always guide our students to promote the myriad culture of the respective state and the country. Thus, we keep on providing them with ample opportunities to be well versed in traditional sports and music along with their academics.”

Dean, Division of Student Affair at LPU, Dr Sorabh Lakhanpal informed that LPU teams won three gold medals in the competitions for Elocution; Rangoli and Mitti de Khidone; ten silver medals for, On the spot Painting, Folk group song, Lok Geet, Debate, Russa bunai, Caroshia, Nella making, Classical Vocal; one each in both Classical instrument percussion & non-Percussion competitions; and, six bronze medals in Peedi making, Gudiyaan patole, Chhiku making, Cartooning, Clay modelling and Rivaaiti pehrawa.

The fest not only raised awareness about the great glory, traditions, and culture of Punjab; but it also awakened youth as a whole against drugs, gun culture and allied ills.
