Complete Bandh observed in Amritsar

Amritsar, August 9 – A Complete bandh was observed in Amritsar here today, on the joint call given by Balmik Community, SC, Dalit, Christian communities and sanitation community for Punjab Bandh.

The purpose behind the bandh call was to register protest in view of the ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur and assault of women in the northern Eastern state.

Leader of Balmik Samaj Om Parkash Anaraya said that the Bandh call was supported by all the religious and various other originations.  People extended full support from the core of their hearts while showing anger against the atrocities inflicted to women in Manipur during inhuman violence.

Earlier in the morning police machinery was also seen urging the people to shut their business establishments in order to maintain a peaceful situation in the district.

Protesting organizations have urged the people to observe bandh from 9 am to 5 pm.

Private schools were forced to shut. At some places protesters were also forced to shut govt schools too. Medicine shops, milk Booths and transportation services were exempted by protesters.

Traffic on the entire national highways remained normal as no transport system was hit due to strike call.

There was a heavy deployment of police force throughout the city to maintain law and order.

Deputy Commissioner of Police  Parminder Singh Bhandal said that not even a single untoward incident was reported throughout the city and the situation remained fully under control.
