Congress Leader Priyanka Gandhi promises Rs 2,000 per month to women-led households in Karnataka

Bengaluru: AICC General secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra announced a monthly cash assistance of s 2,000 under the “Gruha Lakhmi scheme” to  every woman head of household in the Karnataka state if Congress party voted to power in the coming assembly elections in Karnataka.

Congress leader priyanak Gandhi was given rousing welcome by  large crowd at  bengaluru airport on her visit to attend women’s convention called ‘Naa Nayaki’ (I am the woman leader). She said, Gruha Lakshmi  scheme would benefit over 1.5 crore women in the state, which means the government will have to spend Rs 36,000 crore a year to fulfil the promise she made. Earlier congress  made big pre poll pledge  that  200 units of free electricity to all households.

 The “Gruha Lakhmi” scheme is an attempt to share the “burden of the exorbitant LPG prices and the daily expenses that a women bears, the party said. This decision took based on most women, from whom it  sought suggestions,  wanted the party to reduce their financial burden.

 Addressing the Convention Priyanka Gandhi said, a Separate manifesto for women will be released and  Rs 24,000 a year would be directly credited to their bank accounts under the scheme, “We want every woman in the Karnataka state to be empowered and capable of standing on her woen and taking care of her children”. The scheme, along with many yet to be announced, seeks  to provide financial Independence to each woman in Karnataka, she added.

Gandhi accused the state BJP government of corruption and referring to the alleged police sub-inspector recruitment scam, she said, “ I have heard that your ministers are paid a 40% commission on jobs and nothing moves without paying bribes in Karnataka. There are shameful scams like the PSI scam, where police posts are being sold. You educate your childrent o get them jobs, I this what your expect from the people in power?” she asked crowd during the convention.
