Congress Party Slams BJP led govt for the turmoil in Manipur

New Delhi- Congress party today slammed BJP led government in Manipur for the rising violence in the State. The Conditions in Manipur are hostile, hateful and horrid. We are deeply concerned about the tragedy, which was highly avoidable. Talking to the media persons in New Delhi, Senior Congress leader, MP and National spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that over the past one week the Manipur State Government has reflected their State of lawlessness, Statelessness and shamelessness. Holding the Chief Minister N Biren Singh and BJP led government responsible for the violence in the State, Singhvi said that Bhartiya Janta Party has a dark past, its actions and inactions have provoked communities and caste against each other.

Expressing their Concern over the loss of Human lives in the State and destruction at the places of worship Congress spokesperson, emphasized the need of Protecting worship places, Ensuring proper arrangements of medical and food at relief camps and taking all necessary precautions for rehabilitation of displaced persons. Calling it as a Double Engine Sarkari failure Singhi raised some questions also as to Why Should the State take a decision on something on which it does not have power? Why The State Government was entirely explicit and negligent in predicting and negating the violence? What was Centre inactive Since it recently brought almost half a dozen Bills to the list STs of different states during the Last winter and Budget session, why did it Neglect Manipur? Why did Central Government not take appropriate steps to notify ST status for so long?

 Accountability should be ensured as to who is responsible for the sad State of Manipur, Singhvi added. He also raised his voice for the 23 year old Constitution Bench Judgement which held that no court or State has power to add, subtract or modify with the scheduled tribes List, ignored by the state and central governments and brought to the  attention of Manipur HC.
