Congress Party Slams centre on MSP

New Delhi– : The Congress party today attacked the Centre on Minimum Support Price (MSP) calling it as Maximum Suffering for Producers. They slammed the government for only beating and doing Lathi-charge on farmers and not listening to their issues. The farmers are demanding the purchase of sunflower seeds on MSP in Haryana and UP.

 Congress MP Randeep Surjewala addressing the mediapersons today said Modi government has not brought any law on MSP and no farmer is getting the MSP. “ we will raise the issue in the upcoming Monsoon session”. The issues of farmers are not heard and when they protest they are lathicharged. Are the governments and police only beating and insulting the farmers.  The government has promised to form a Committee to give legal guarantee to the MSP to end the farmer’s movement, we demand purchase of sunflower crop on MSP in Haryana and North India immediately, Congress MP Deepender Hooda said.

Farmers have begun their protest demanding Minimum Support Price for sunflower seed in Kurukshetra, Haryana.   Farmers staged a demonstration for the purchase of sunflower seeds on MSP. They completely blocked the national highway near Shahbad yesterday, where the police used water cannons to disperse them. A large number of farmers were detained in the exercise. The farmers claimed that the government was not buying sunflower seeds at the minimum support price and therefore they are forced to sell their produce to private buyers at around Rs 4,000 per quintal against Rs.6,400 MSP

 Meanwhile, Bhartiya Kisan Union Leader Rakesh Tikait had  warned for bigger agitation if the  legal guarantee on MSP is not given. He also condemned Haryana police  lathicharge on protesting farmers in Kurukshetra. He said struggle that began in Shahbad would reach the national level as every farmer is concerned about the MSP for different crops.  Nine leaders of the Bhartiya Kisan Union including the president Gurnam Singh Charuni were arrested after the farmers blocked the highway in Shahbad yesterday.
