Contest within Tau Devi Lal family in Elanabad bi-polls in Haryana

Preparations has  started by all political parties in the state for Elanabad Vidhan Sabha bi-polls in Haryana to be held on October 30, 2021 likely to have triangular contest between Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), Congress and Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) in alliance with Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) candidates to declare the name of winner on November 2. Past scenario of this constituency reveals that members of  former Deputy Prime Minister Ch. Devi Lal or candidates supported by the family has always been declared winner on this seat since after year 1968 so far.

Information reveals, coming bi-polls on this Vidhan Sabha seat are going to have tough fight between the political parties led by sons of former five times Haryana Chief Minister Om Parkash Chautala; INLD led by Abhey Chautala Presiding General Secretary INLD having blessings by Om Parkash Chautala and Ajay Chautala President of JJP launched by his son Dushyant Chautala presently Deputy Chief Minister Haryana who had alliance with BJP to form government in Haryana state and both political parties are likely to have fight with Congress candidate in coming bi-polls.

Looking at past years, Ch. Devi Lal’s family has been winning all elections from Elanabad Vidhan Sabha seat since after 1968 except polls held in 1968 and 1991. Former Chief Minister Om Parkash Chautala and Abhey Chautala contested most of Vidhan Sabha polls from this seat. Om Parkash Chautala joined Haryana Vidhan Sabha after victory in polls from Elanabad Vidhan Sabha seat, whereas Abhey Chatala won this seat three times. When Elanabad Vidhan Sabha seat was declared reserved in 1977 till the year 2005, Bhagi Ram contested and won this seat with the support of Ch. Devi Lal family five times.

Om Parkash Chautala won Elanabad Vidhan Sabha seat in the year 2009 when it was declared general category seat and Abhey Chautala contested and won this seat in 2010 bi-polls but lost to BJP candidate Pawan Beniwal in 2014  Vidhan Sabha polls with heavy margin. Elanabad Vidhan Sabha constituency became vacant when INLD Presiding General Secretary Abhy Chautala submitted his resignation in January this year in support of farmers agitation and bi-polls on this seat delayed due to second wave of COVID-19.

Sources reveal, Pawan Beniwal won Elanabad Vidhan Sabha seat earlier on behalf of BJP may now contest poll from this seat in coming bi-polls on behalf of Congress since he left BJP. There are several names willing to contest coming Elanabad bi-polls including Digvijay Chautala to contest on behalf of JJP in alliance with BJP, whereas Karan Chautala or Arjun Chautala sons of Abhey Chautala may contest on behalf of INLD in case Abhey Chautala himself doesn’t contest these polls. Information reveals, O.P. Dhankhad State BJP president had a meeting with senior party leaders in this regard recently when names of Nitasha Sihag a former  Elanabad Block Samiti member and BJP women wing district president, another active BJP female leader Minu Beniwal and Gobinf Kanda younger brother of former minister Gopal Kanda were recommended to contest coming Elanabad bi-polls on behalf of BJP.
