Crop stubble burning cases 10 times more in Punjab than Haryana

Political leaders in Haryana and Punjab are blaming each other for burning crops stubble in open that caused spread of pollution at Delhi, National Capital Region (NCR) and other towns in Northern part in the country. According to available data, cases of crops stubble burning cases have been detected nearly ten times more in Punjab as compared to Haryana state. Political leaders has now started playing politics in this regard due to spread of pollution at Delhi, NCR and few other towns reached beyond danger point as such few families residing at Delhi and in NCR have started temporarily shifting to safe places till situation improves since it has become difficult for aged persons, children and heart patients to live in thick smoke and pollution.

Kuldeep Singh Dhillon Agriculture Minister in Punjab recently in a statement blamed Haryana government responsible for pollution in the atmosphere at Delhi and NCR, whereas J.P. Dalal Agriculture Minister Haryana refuted allegations and pointing out at Arvind Kejriwal said that instead of playing politics he should take necessary steps to impose strict ban over crop stubble burning in open since number of such cases is nearly ten times more in Punjab as compared to Haryana state.  Information reveals that number of such crop stubble burning cases has witnessed nearly 31% drop this year as compared to previous year in Haryana, whereas on the other hand nearly 18% increase in burning cases has been recorded in Punjab this year as compared to previous year.

According to available data, with effect from 15th September this year 2377 crop stubble burning cases have been reported in Haryana state so far as compared to 24146 crop stubble burning cases in Punjab in this period which adversely affected environment in the state. J.P. Dalal said, Haryana state had demanded its share of SYL canal water from Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal who during Capt Amrinder Singh’s rule in Punjab had assured to stop burning crops  stubble in open in Punjab when AAP government will come to power in Punjab state but he has taken no steps against crop stubble burning in open raising a question over now playing politics in this regard.

Past five years scenario as regard number of crop stubble burning cases in Haryana and Punjab states in past five years has been recorded as 13185 cases  in Haryana and 67079 cases in Punjab during year 2017, 9225 cases in Haryana and 59684 cases in Punjab during year 2018, 6364 cases in Haryana and  50738 cases in Punjab during year 2019, 4202 cases in Haryana and 63002 cases in Punjab during year 2020 and 6987 cases in Haryana and 71304 cases in Punjab during year 2021.
