CSL is first green shipping company to bag CII “GreenCo” award

 Mumbai, Oct 10: Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), a PSE under the Ministry of Shipping, Govt. of India has become the +first+ company in the shipping sector to be certified by Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) for the “Green Co Silver rating.”

The Green Co rating certificate was awarded to CSL at the CII GreenCo Rating Award Ceremony (Virtual Event) during the 9th Edition of GreenCo Summit 2020 on 07th Oct.2020, on the CII HIVE Virtual Platform.

This certification is considered ‘very special’, as it was obtained in a pandemic Covid19 situation and the process was completed in a short time. With this rating, CSL has now joined the few big companies like IOCL, HPCL, BPCL, ONGC, GAIL, Indian Railway (units at ICF) that have already been certified.

“Greenco” rating is awarded to a company that meets set norms in implementation of ‘Green’ environment friendly facets in their production activities and persistent endeavours for greener renewable energies like solar/wind etc. The award is based on performance evaluation of the Company under various parameters like: Energy Efficiency, Water Conservation, Renewable Energy, Green House Gas Emission, Waste Management, Material Conservation, Recycling and Recyclability, Green Supply Chain, Product Stewardship & Life Cycle Assessment, Innovation for Environment, Green Infrastructure and Ecology.

While boosting CSL’s effort at achieving world class competitiveness and provide new opportunities for cost reduction, the GreenCo silver rating is expected to enhance the Company’s Corporate Green image, credibility & also create transparency among stakeholders while paving the way for it to put up a strong long-term roadmap for ecologically sustainable business growth.

Another significant achievement included CSL delivering Two +Roll on Roll Off (RO-RO)+ vessels to Inland Waterways Authority of India, which is a part of the order for a series of total 10 vessels comprising of Eight +Ro Pax+ vessels for operation and NW1 and NW2 and the current Two +Ro RO+ vessels. The delivery protocol was signed by Mathew George, Director, IWAI Kochi and Suresh Babu N.V, Director (Operations), CSL in the presence of the Officials of IWAI and CSL.

Built with in-house design for day and night operation all around the year to carry 15 TEU container trailers and 30 passengers, the 56-mtr-long +Ro-Ro+ Vessels   feature modern communication equipment, ergonomically-designed navigational wheel house, comfortable air-conditioned  accommodation for 8 crew and an open deck for easy loading and discharging of trucks and vehicles. The ship is built to the highest standards of the Indian Register of Shipping and Kerala Inland Vessels Rule and complying with the Prevention and Control of Pollution and Protection of Inland Water.

These vessels are part of the order for a series of total 10 vessels comprising of Eight +Ro Pax+ vessels for operation and NW1 & NW2, which were delivered earlier to IWAI, and the current Two +Ro Ro+ vessels for operations in NW3. CSL has invested its resources in the Inland Water Segment — including development of a dedicated shipbuilding facility in Kolkata — with the aim of providing a complete solution to customers operating in the Inland water segment.
