Dalit girl student facing harassment for fee by college management commits suicide

Bhiwani: A political controversy in the case of suicide of a Dalit girl student in Bhiwani in Haryana has started. BA final year girl student of Bhiwani women college was being harassed by the college management for not paying the fees. Tired of this harassment, a student of private women college took step to commit suicide by hanging. On the complaint to the police by the girl’s father Jagdish a resident of Fartia Bhima village against four people including the college principal have been accused of forcing her to commit suicide. The family members along with various social organizations also demonstrated to demand justice for the victim. The student’s father alleges that the college staff used to put pressure on the student to pay the outstanding fees, she was also harassed too much due to this the student facing torture committed suicide. The student’s father Jagdish said that his daughter had to appear for her fifth semester examination this month, but the college authorities did not allow her to do so due to pending fees. He said that he was unable to pay her fees on time due to some financial constraints. Demanding justice for daughter, he also alleged that the college principal and some others harassed and tortured her, compelling to end her life.

Loharu police station in-charge Inspector Jitendra said, many aspects have come to light during the investigation. An FIR has been registered and the investigation is ongoing. When asked about the allegations of harassment of the student, police officer said tha investigation are going on, no suicide note has been found the post-mortem report is also pending. However, on the complaint of victim’s family, a case has been filed against four persons including the college Principal under BNS section 108 for abetment to suicide and action will be taken against whoever is found guilty in the investigation. Meanwhile, Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala and Sirsa MP Kumari Selja said that it is sad that a Dalit girl in Haryana had to commit suicide due to not being able to pay the examination fee. Surjewala posted on Twitter, “This incident is not only sad but also extremely shameful. The victim’s family should get justice and this case should be thoroughly investigated.”

The suicide case of a girl student from a deprived society in Bhiwani district of Haryana has created a political uproar. Congress leaders have accused the BJP-ruled states of increasing oppression on the deprived, while Social Justice Minister Krishna Bedi has hit back. He said that a case has been registered against the culprits. Political uproar has intensified in Haryana over the suicide of a student from a deprived community  Politics has heated up over the suicide case of a girl student from a deprived society studying in a college in Loharu of Bhiwani district in Haryana. Meanwhile, Kumari Selja said that incidents of oppression of the deprived society have increased in BJP-ruled states, which the governments are proving unsuccessful in stopping. The deprived are not even being heard. BJP-ruled states have become laboratories of atrocities on the deprived for some time.

Meanwhile, the case being investigated by SIT constituted on the order of chief minister has taken a turn in suicide of the girl after the arrest of a youth identified as Rahul, son of the patron of college management committee, used to harass her on phone forcing her to do wrong things with him, who has been arrested by the police on Wednesday in student’s suicide case allegedly accused of harassing the student and calling her repeatedly. Police seized Rahul’s mobile phone to be sent to the lab for investigation and the deleted data will be recovered. Preliminary investigation revaeled that Rahul had called the student before she committed suicide. Information alo revealed that this college belongs to Congress MLA Rajbir Fartia and his brother-in-law Hanuman Singh, the patron and member of Sharda Shiksha Samiti. DSP investigating the case said that initial investigation has revealed that Rahul used to severely harass the student calling her repeatedly and many cases are already registered against Rahul. Information also revealed that three cases of cyber crime are registered against Rahul and he has also been to jail.

 Rahul was produced in court today. The SIT has visited the college and seized the records. The girl’s father had alleged that the principal did not allow his daughter to appear in the exam and expelled her from the college because she could not pay the fees. Investigation revealed, Hanuman Singh was also aware of this and the police had registered a case against Hanuman, Rahul, a female to him and the principal. The chairperson of the Haryana Women’s Commission has also written a letter to the Superintendent of Police for strict action against all those involved in this case. CM Saini has also directed the police to speed up the investigation. Till now, there was a war of words between ministers and BJP and Congress leaders in this matter. Kumari Selja and Randeep Singh Surjewala had questioned the state government in the case of the student committing suicide. After which Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Krishna Bedi had retaliated. Now, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has responded to the allegations of opposition leaders. On Wednesday, CM Saini, while responding, said that Congress leaders should think why such a situation arose in this college of an MLA of their own party. The Chief Minister said that the status report has been received. Instructions have been given to arrest all accused without any delay.
