Director-General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Kapur during a talk stated that an effective action plan was being implemented to curb crime, especially against women in Haryana. Eight teams of the Special Task Force (STF) have been formed to keep a strict vigil on criminal activities and break the nexus of criminals in the state.
Panchkula : Haryana has witnessed a continuous decline in major crimes this year as compared to last year. According to the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) report, there has been a significant reduction in crimes under the SC/ST Act, crimes against women and children, robberies and murders, Shatrujit Kapoor DGP Haryana said that according to the report a 52.94% decrease in the SC/ST Act cases, a 14.50% reduction in rape cases, a 19.51% drop in dowry deaths, a 29.57% decrease in molestation cases, a 22.58% decline in dacoities, a 29.72% reduction in robberies, a 9.96% decrease in snatchings and a 21.45% drop in extortion and blackmail cases has been recorded. He said, there have been reduction in cases of murder, offences under the POCSO Act, vehicle thefts, and kidnappings also.
DGP Kapoor said that with effect from January to August 2024, the STF has successfully apprehended 121 most-wanted criminals, 36 gangsters and their gang members and 264 hard core criminals involved in serious offences and crime units have been established in the districts for crime control operating under the guidance of senior police officials. Kapoor said, to maintain law and order 53 special weapons and tactics (SWAT) teams have been prepared in the state, check points have been set up at various locations at night to monitor suspicious and criminal activities, especially thoroughly checking the vehicles. He disclosed that operations like ‘Operation Akraman’ were launched periodically to dismantle criminal activities in the state and during 2024, in which state police teams registered 2743 FIRs and arrested 4768 criminals under Operation Akraman by 7,957 police teams.
DGP Kapoor said that to provide a safe environment for women in the state, 2153 hotspot areas and 292 hot routes have been identified where incidents of eve-teasing are more likely to occur. He said special police duties have been assigned in these areas and routes for swift action against offenders. “The Haryana Police have also introduced a trip-monitoring service to ensure the safety of women travelling alone who can register themselves on Haryana-112 in emergency and their journey will be monitored until they reach their destination safely,” DGP said the Haryana Police have trained four women police officers in every district for women and child safety and these officers are conducting sensitisation programmes in schools and colleges, educating women and children about good touch and bad touch, as well as their fundamental rights.
DGP said, Gram and Ward Praharies have been directed to monitor criminal activities in rural and urban areas, strict actions are taken against those who engage in hooliganism and harass people unnecessarily. “The Haryana Police also monitors social media platforms for posts by gangsters, keeping a close watch on those who like or share such posts,” Kapoor added performance evaluation forms had been introduced to promote healthy competition among police officers, which set standards for enhancing police efficiency and decisions related to ACRs and other important matters based on performance evaluations. He said regular review meetings with districtrict and senior officials are held to ensure better law and order.
