Amritsar February 9 Cabinet Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal has heartfelt appeal to Punjabi youth, urging them not to attempt to travel abroad through unauthorized routes. This plea comes after a tragic incident in which a young man, Gurpreet Singh, lost his life in Guatemala while en route to America.
Dhaliwal, who visited the family’s home in village Ramdas to offer condolences, emphasized the dangers and exorbitant costs associated with these routes. He advised young individuals to instead pursue skilled education, which reduces expenses and eliminates risks. With the money spent on attempting to travel abroad illegally, Dhaliwal suggested that good businesses can be established in Punjab.
The Cabinet Minister assured Gurpreet Singh’s family that the government will make every effort to bring his body back to Punjab. He reiterated that the government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, stands in solidarity with the family during this difficult time, acknowledging that the loss of a young life can never be fully compensated.
However, Gurpreet from Ramdas in Ajnala of Amritsar died of cardiac arrest on the way to the USA, at Guatemala.
Family sources said that the deceased Gurpreet was being taken to the USA along with others through the infamous ‘Donkey’ route. This comes days after the USA administration deported several illegal immigrants from India.
Family sources said that they had paid the agents Rs 16.5 lakh before Gurpreet was taken to Guyana where he suffered a heart attack on the way and breathed his last at Guatemala.
