Diarrhoea spread: 5 died, over 50 admitted in hospitals due to contaminated water supply

Karnal: As a result of consuming contaminated water being supplied by the Public Health department at Kunjpura in Karnal district large number of people are suffering from diarrhoea since past about a month and in-spite of several complaints to Gaurav Saini SDO there is no relief except assurances, said residents of the area. Large number of residents blocked roads and traffic remained blocked for several hours, when police intervened into the matter assuring immediate action in this regard. According to complainants, five persons have died so far and more than 50 patients suffering from diarrhoea and vomiting are admitted in the hospitals at present, which include a maximum number of children and women. Dr Sandeep Abrol Senior Medical Officer said that he has not received a test report of water being supplied by the Public Health department.

A couple of days ago, a meeting was held in which Panchayat members  including female Sarpanch Suman Devi and a representative from the police department were also present. Gaurav Saini SDO said that the problem for supply of contaminated water is being received since after the repairs of streets in residential areas sometime ago by the village Panchayat in which spurious quality water pipes were used by the contractor started leaking and water supplied by Public Health department mixed with the contaminated sewerage water and trouble started SDO said that the maintenance of the pipelines and supply of water in residential areas is sole responsibility of the Panchayat.
