Drug addiction among youths affect families, 4 fast-track courts to expedite hearing of drugs related cases in Haryana

Fast increasing addiction among youths in Haryana is avital issue for the state government today. It affects the person using substances. According to information heroine and smackk are widely used by the youths As addiction progresses, the impact only gets worse with time having short and long term health effects, loss of jobs, increasing financial troubles, and run-ins with involvement in criminal activities to meet the demand of drugs. Living in active addiction is not a simple way to live adversely affecting the immediate family members. Whether it’s a child, parent, or spouse, drug addiction alters the lives of anyone who loves the person. Addiction affects the entire family in many ways. The specific effects depend on which person in the family unit has the problem including  relationships, finances, safety, and more are all at risk.There are countless effects of drug addiction on the family. Strained relationships, financial difficulties, and increased risk of abuse are only the start.
Addiction strains relationships, no matter which family member has the problem. It doesn’t matter if it’s a parent, child, spouse, or sibling. Every family member struggles alongside the addict to an extent. Living with someone with active addiction is a daily challenge for each person in the home. As usually seen it becomes very difficult to leave the use of drugs by the addicted persons. A survey conducted in five districts in southern area in the state revealed that in as many as 211 villages 3512 youths were identified having addiction to drugs mainly heroine and smack during current year and in a period of 10 months, of them 378 youths succeeded in leaving use of drugs after the counselling and the treatment of 1760 youths is still going on.

Information reveals that 850 youths were identified aas ddicted to drugs in 56 villages in Hisar district, of them 90 youths left using drugs after counselling. Similarly, out of 396 youths identified addicted to the drugs in 35 villages in Handi district 46 youths left taking the drugs, out of total number of 1081 youths identified addicted to the drugs in 54 villages in Sirsa district 67 youths left taking drugs, out of 685 youths identified addicted to the drugs in 31 villages in Fatehabad district 125 youths left taking drugs and in Case of 500 youths identified addicted to the drugs in Jind district 50 youths left taking drugs.
Haryana Chief Secretary Sanjeev Kaushal while talking to the media persons said that following the blueprint of Sirsa fast track court, seven more fast-track courts have been notified in Fatehabad, Ambala, Hisar, Kaithal, Karnal, Kurukshetra, and Panipat. He said that the state government is actively working to establish four more fast-track courts in Gurugram, Rohtak, Faridabad, and Yamunanagar. This strategic initiative aims to expedite legal proceedings in the state. While presiding over the 6th State level Committee meeting of NARCO Coordination Centre, Kaushal said that legal and IT consultants will be appointed under the Haryana Police Act 2007 aiming to expedite the anti-drug campaign, reinforcing the government’s commitment to combat substance abuse effectively.

The Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau (HSNCB) has demonstrated unwavering commitment and effectiveness in combating drug-related offenses. According to available data till 3 1st October this year, a total of 3,306 cases have been registered, leading to the arrest of 4,452 individuals involved in different offenses. Information revealed that 290 of these cases fall under the category of commercial quantity (CQ), resulting in the arrest of 493 individuals. In a proactive move to deter habitual offenders. According to Shrikant Jaghav ADGP, Haryana Narcotics Control Bureau has detained 33 individuals for a year under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act in September 2023. To expedite the legal process for CQ cases, the reporting time for the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) has been significantly reduced to 15 days.

 
According to information, Narcotic Control Bureau in the state achieved a major breakthrough with the seizure of large quantity og drugs including 40 quintals of poppy husk, marking one of the largest-ever hauls facilitated through technological interventions.The Chief Secretary Sanjeev Kaushal stressed the need to expand the Cyclothon campaign to all villages, blocks, and districts, and also promoting e-sports in schools to educate students about the dangers of drugs. He highlighted the need for Standard Operating Procedures to equip district de-addiction centers with necessary health facilities and staff training.

underscored the operation of de-addiction centers in 15 districts, emphasizing the importance of addressing license renewals. Proposing the authorization of gazetted officers for investigations aligning with the NDPS Act, Kaushal asked the officers to ensure strict legal measures and proposes rating centers based on health service quality, facilitated by a forthcoming portal emphasizing to conduct regular meetings for the National Narcotics Coordination Committee at the district level and also advocating for monthly sessions ensures effective coordination, and to enhance oversight and accountability. He directed Deputy Commissioners and SDMs to conduct monthly monitoring of de-addiction centers in their area.
Among those present in the meeting were TVSN Prasad, Additional Chief Secretary Health & Family Welfare Department, Dr G Anupama, DGP Shatrujeet Kapur, ADGP Alok Nigam, ADGP OP Singh, Director General Medical Education and Research, Mrs. Ashima Brar, Excise and Taxation Commissioner Ashok Meena, Special Secretary Home Department Mahavir Kaushik and others senior officers.
