Fake vehicle registration racket unearthed in Ambala

Punjab police arrested an Ambala agent Arvinder alias Bony for running a racket along with two companions Amandeep Singh, resident of village Sidhwala, in Punjab and Pradeep Sharma, resident of Samana in Punjab, in a single room office involved in preparing all types of fake automobile documents including vehicle registrations and road permits issued by SDM and RTA offices with the help of lower staff posted in these offices.

Mandeep Singh Sidhu SSP Patiala told that Ghaga police station in Patiala district impounded over a dozen vehicles registered on fake documents at Ambala and busted the gang with the arrest of prime accuse Arvinder alias Bony from Ambala City functioning in this illegal business since a long time and in a raid at their office recovered eight fake rubber seals, large number of NOCs and documents used in preparing fake registrations and road permits.

According to investigating team the racket members admitted involved in preparing more than 90 fake vehicle registrations and over 150 road permits on he basis of fake NOCs and efforts are being made to recover all vehicles plying on the road having fake documents in past sometime.

Bony also disclosed that they used to change two to three digits of engine and chasis numbers of old vehicles while issuing a vehicle registration number with the help of lower staff in concerned government office. However, during preliminary investigation the allegations were denied and the senior officers were not prepared to say anything in this regard.

Sources further added that large numbers of vehicles having fake registration documents are plying on roads in Haryana and other states and many of these vehicles stolen from other states subjected to change of engine and chasis number are moving on the roads.

Sources reveal that Ambala has been on the headlines in newspapers in past year also when agents have been found ruling over in SDM and RTA offices. In the year 1999, a fake license racket was busted in SDM Ambala office and the kingpin of gang a clerk working in SDM office was taken into custody.

Surprisingly, more than 35000 driving licenses were issued during single year from the office of then SDM when it was detected that a large number of driving licenses were issued to those belonged to other states through agents found having serious irregularities like absence of signatures of applicant on application form, bogus medical certificate of applicant, fake residential address an interestingly in some cases even prescribed fee for the registration of vehicle and driving licenses was not deposited along with application forms. Sources also reveal that on a single day as many as about 2900 driving licenses were issued by then SDM.
