Amritsar- The President of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) Harjinder Singh Dhami said that the deceitful arrest of farmers who have long been struggling for their legitimate demands by the Punjab government is a big insult to the nation’s food providers.
In a statement issued, the SGPC President said that it is extremely painful that the farmers, who have contributed significantly to the country’s progress, prosperity, and economy, are today suffering due to the anti-farmer policies of the governments.
He said today is a shameful day for the Punjab government when farmer leaders were deceitfully arrested after talks with central ministers.
Dhami questioned whether governments are so afraid of the farmers that they cannot even face them for dialogue.
Dhami demanded that the arrested farmer leaders and farmers be released immediately and that the government apologize to them.
Along with this, he urged that the farmers’ demands be accepted so that they are not forced to struggle on the streets.
