New Delhi—A day ahead of the Bharat Bandh call given by the All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee against the controversial new farm laws, farmer leaders are pulling out all the stops to make it a success. Assisting them is an army of foot-soldiers, all farmers, who are working on the ground to garner support from traders, union bodies and common man for their cause of repealing the laws.
A lot of farmers who were camping at Singhu and Tikri borders travelled back to Punjab on Sunday to urge people for maximum participation in Tuesday’s bandh which will also symbolise the strength of their Dilli Chalo stir that entered its 12 day on Monday. Thousands of youths will take out motorcycle rallies to spread this message in all the districts of Punjab. “They will also go door-to-door in villages, cities apart from visiting petrol pumps, markets requesting people to keep their trade closed on Tuesday. A lot of our men have gone to Punjab specially for the task,” Joginder Singh, President, Bharatiya Kisan Union(Ugarahan) told FW. “We are confident that everyone will come out in our support. Our demands are genuine. We have braved police atrocities and are now weathering extreme cold. This fight is not easy. We appeal everyone to join us,” he further said.
Meanwhile, apex bodies like All India Traders’ Union, All India Petroleum Dealers’ Association, Medical Associations of different etc have backed the Bharat Bandh call. Opposition parties too have come in support of lakhs of farmers who are holding peaceful sit-ins on the outskirts of Delhi since November 26, seeking revocation of new farm laws.
