Farmers review Centre’s new offer for talks

New Delhi—In late night development on Monday, the Union government invited the farmers for a meeting on Tuesday afternoon. Farm leaders, meanwhile, said they will respond to the offer “definitely” but only after taking a decision on Tuesday morning.

Thousands of farmers have dug in their heels at Singhu border agitating against the contention farm laws. Weathering extreme cold, they refuse to back down or move to pre-designated protest site, Burari ground.

The meeting was earlier scheduled to be held on December 3. In a press release issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, the date was advanced to December 1 keeping in view “cold and Covid”. Agriculture minister Naresh Singh Tomar had met Union Home Minister Amit Shah late evening in this regard. The release said that all the farm leaders who were invited for meetings earlier, have been extended the offer for Tuesday’s meeting which will be held at 3 PM at Vigyan Bhagwan.

“We have received the invitation from the Centre and will be consider it definitely. However, we will take a final call on whether to attend it on Tuesday morning in the meeting that we have called,” said Ruldu Singh, President, Bharatiya Kisan Union.
