Farmers to gherao top cop’s office in Hisar on May 24

New Delhi—Following the assault on farmers in Hisar by Haryana Police on May 16 and subsequent registration of FIRs on the protesting peasants, the Bharatiya Kisan Union(Charuni) will gherao the office of the Police Commissioner in the district May 24. Gurnam Singh Charuni, President, BKU announced this on May 19 while visiting Hisar.

Addressing farmers at the toll plaza near Mayyar, he said the state BJP government had tricked them into believing that it had cancelled the FIRs. Hundreds of farmers had gathered outside the residence of the Inspector General of Police on May 16, demanding release of 85 farmers who were arrested and suspending the complaints filed against them. They left late in the evening only after the arrested farmers were released and senior cops assured them that the complaints have been withdrawn.

“We have received information that the police again registered FIRs against our kisan bhais. This is back-stabbing and this government is known for this. The police have time to scrap the complaints. In case it fails to do so till May 23, we will gherao the office of Police Commissioner,” he said.

The leader also urged farmers from districts falling under the commissionerate to reach Hisar in maximum number and participate in the gherao.
