An FIR has been registered against a Kala Amb (Himachal Pradesh) based pharmaceuticals manufacturing company Digital Vision allegedly manufacturing adulterated drugs. The charge of attempt to culpable homicide has also been incorporated in the FIR, The investigation in case was carried by Haryana State Drug Control Department Panchkula and Jammu-Kashmir drug department alleged Cold Best syrup for cold and cough patients caused death of 12 children and left harmful affect over kidneys of nearly 36 children spoiled in months December 2019 and January 2020. According to report by Haryana drug department the drug samples sent to RDTL Laboratory Chandigarh was found adulterated as such failed.
Teams of Central Drug Controller General of India along with Himachal Drug Controller jointly conducted raids at the factory from February 15 to 18 and collected samples as well as company’s record according to which 5500 bottles of same batch were filled up in September 2019 and supplies were made in 10 states.across the country. An FIR was registered against firm at Kala Amb police station under section 18(A)(1), 17A, 27A of Drug & Cosmetic Act section 208 IPC and and the factory was sealed after cancellation of drug license of firm.
Making a statement on the action taken on letter received from the Drug Controller, J and K, regarding infant mortalities which said as per the report of a government analyst, Coldbest, a PC syrup, manufactured by Digital Vision, contained more than 34 per cent diethylene glycol, causing death of an infant, However, report of samples submitted Haryana State Drug Control office yet awaited.
