First 50 bed government cancer hospital in Haryana to be inaugurated

An awareness programme was held at Ambala on the eve of World Cancer Day. The first 50 bed cancer hospital in Haryana at civil hospital Ambala Cantt another dream project of Health & Home Minister Haryana is almost ready likely to be inaugurated in the month April 2021. Amount worth Rs 83 crore with 60% financial aid from government in the centre has been spent over this project delayed due to KOVID-19 outbreak although 4-storey building was completed.  Dr. Kuldeep Singh CMO Ambala district told that most hi-tech machine with the cost Rs 18 crore capable to burn tumour with its rays has been imported from England. He said, this hospital will provide relief to cancer patients in Haryana as well as adjoining states Punjab H.P and U.P. Information reveals, nearly 4000 patients are suffering from cancer every year in Ambala district getting treatment at the different hospitals in or outside the state.

According to Dr Kuldeep Singh, 158 patients suffering from cancer were admitted at Civil Hospital Ambala for cancer treatment during year 2020, besides another 288 old patients having treatment in the hospital. He said, excessive use of tobacco products, smoking and drinking are root causes of mouth and lungs cancer and after the age 30 one should get examined mouth orally, visually at the government hospital. He further said that weight loss, lack of appetite, difficulty in swallowing, wounds in the mouth, neck pain, Hard lumps in breasts, vaginal discharge accompanied by bleeding, change in urine and toilet habits are some of the prominent symptoms for cancer disease and one should consult a doctor immediately for early detection of cancer.

CMO Ambala told that there would be 54 staff members in this 50 bed hospital, besides 20 specialist senior doctors two each for radiation department, surgery section and medical section, three specialists in radiation department, nine posts for radiation therapy technologist and one post each for physio-therapist and dietician. According to data provided by Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) and National Centre of Diseases Informatics & Research (NCDIR) there are 13.90 lakh cancer patients in the country till December 2020 and the way the disease is constantly rising there is likely the country to have 15.70 lakh patients by the year 2025.
