Five arrested including father-in-law of victim Sukhchain Singh to give shelter to  shooters

Amritsar ,August 25  Punjab police with in overnight have arrested five accused including father-in-law of victim Sukchain Singh for giving shelter to two shooters who shot at Sukhchain Singh an NRI who has recently returned from US.

Addressing the press conference here today early in the morning Commissioner police Amritsar Mr. Ranjit Singh Dhillon shared the name and identification of arrested accused said that Jagjit Singh resident of village Bhat of Tarn Taran district,  Chamkor Singh resident of village Bhut of Tarn Taran district, Digamber Atari resident of Amritsar city, Abhilash Kapoor resident of Katra Ahluwalia Amritsar walled city and Sarwan Singh resident of village Bains of district Hoshiarpur.

Dhillon said FIR was registered on the statement of Harbhjan Kaur who was mother of victim.

Dhillon said that accused, Digamber Atari resident of Amritsar city who is owner of hotel and manager of the hotel Abhilash Kapoor have provided room to shooters without obtaining their identification proofs. He said that accused Sarwan Singh resident of village Bains of district Hoshiarpur was father-in-law of the victim.

He said shooters who shot at victim yet to be arrested have recently came out from Kapurthala prison on bail as they were facing numerous criminal case including murder and NDPS Act.

Dhillon said that few names more were added in the FIR were Kuljinder Kaur sister in-law of victim Sukhwinder Singh brother-in-law of victim  and Jasvir Singh  also brother in-law of victim all resident of resident of  Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA.

However, Special DGP (Internal Security) R.N. Dhoke during his visit here on Saturday  said that  two accused involved in the attack on US based NRI at Daburji village have been identified and to be arrested shortly.

He said that one of the accused belonged to Kapurthala and other to Jalandhar.

He had reached at the residence (crime spot) of NRI Sukhchain Singh who was shot at and injured critically by two assailants.  After committing the crime the accused managed to escape away from the spot. The accused escaped on a bike after committing the crime.

However, the police have registered FIR against five persons on the statement of the mother of victim Sukhchain Singh. They are relatives of first wife of Sukhchain Singh.

The injured NRI had also received threatening/extortion phone calls, said family sources.

He said that there was possibility of more than two persons involved in the crime. The entire incident of attack was recorded on the CCTV cameras and police have also procured footage of CCTV’s installed in the area and highways.

DGP also cleared that as per doctors the victim’s health improving as responding the treatment and presently out of danger.

It may be mentioned here that as per reports, the victim’s first wife committed suicide around two years back.

However, earlier on Saturday, in the morning around 7.05 am  a non-resident Indian (NRI) was shot at by two unidentified assailants at his residence in Daburji village on the outskirts of the city here on Saturday, police said.
