Four Ambala Central Jail prisoners threatened Dy Jail Supdt to kill him, his family by Lawrence gang

Baldev Nagar police station Ambala City registered a case against four prisoners lodged in Ambala central jail under various sections of IPC allegedly threatened to kill Dr. Rajiv Kumar Deputy Superintendent along arrived with Neelum and other security men on the information that prisoners are carrying a mobile phone in the jail for search operation of mobile phone illegally carried by them. When Dr. Rajiv Kumar   started search for the mobile phone in the barrack in which they were lodged they started misbehaving and abused him threatening to kill him as well as his family by Lawrence gang members claiming themselves members of the same group.

Dr Rajiv Kumar along with security staff traced the mobile from a prisoner during search but they refused to hand over the same and started throwing mobile phone from one prisoner to another and finally thrown the same on the floor damaged and broken into pieces. The four prisoners were identified as Surya Pratap Singh a brother of gangster Kala Rana, Ankur Singh, Yog Raj alias Pinka Gujjar and Jitender Singh all involved in large number of criminal activities. Dr. Rajiv called another jail security staff which arrived immediately and over powered all four prisoner, later shifted them in separate cells. Information reveals, Dr Rajiv Kumar earlier received threatening calls from prisoner Surya Pratap Singh also on January 26 as well as June 13 this year when six mobile phones were recovered in the jail during a search operation.

Information revealed that Surya Pratap Singh brother of gangster Kala Rana was having a criminal record allegedly involved in several criminal cases registered against him in past including murder of a Yamunanagar based   businessman Raghunath alias Raghu on August 28, 2020 and firing on Dilbag Singh brother of a former INLD MLA when he was lodged in jail and was   sent to Kutikshetra jail. Surya Pratap Singh was also named allegedly involved in conspiracy of a double murder case in which two youths Vishal and Mohit were shot dead in broad daylight opposite DAV Riverside School on Jagadhari Road Ambala Cantt in a conspiracy by him and the arms were alleged supplied by him in month January this year.

175 years old historic jail was set up at Ambala during British rule in the country and given status of central jail in 1947 after independence of country. Jail spread across 12 acres area has 17 barracks to accommodate prisoners including a separate section for female prisoners and a hospital inside the jail. Nathu Ram Godse killer of Mahatma Gandhi was hanged along with Narayan  Apte in this jail in 1949 which still exists in the jail for display, followed by other hangings in this jail including Basant Kumar who had thrown bomb on a procession led by then British Viceroy Lord Harding in 1912 and a freedom fighter Jashleshwar Singh. As many as 12 hangings were held in this jail during a mutiny against British government in 1915 in which 18 persons were held, among those the imprisonment of six persons was changed to life imprisonment. Among those arrested and lodged in this jail during protest against British rulers were Sucheta Kriplani later became first chief minister in U.P, and Bibi Amar Kaur sister of martyr Bhagat Singh, Raj Kumari Amrit Kaur later became Health Minister in the country.
