Four IT students of Noida University arrested for cyber frauds

Yamuna Nagar : Cyber Crime Police Station arrested four students of Galgotia university in Noida, allegedly involved in a gang of cyber fraud through digital arrest being operated in Pakistan. The accused students belonging to UP, Bihar and Chhattisgarh states studying diploma and B-Tech in Information Technology (IT) had created a gang having links with a network in Pakistan, since the fraud calls to the victims were made from a number in Pakistan.

SHO Cyber Crime Police Station Ravikant said that recently Ramkumar, an engineer posted in a thermal power plant, had registered a case in the Cyber Crime Police Station. He said that his son is studying in a university in Patiala. He received a call from an unknown number. The caller said that your son has committed rape and has been arrested. If you want to save him, then give one lakh rupees. Those arrested were identified as Zeeshan a student of Bettiah Champaran in Bihar currently residing at Shaheen Bagh Delhi studying in a university in Noida, Abhinav Pratap Singh a resident of Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh, Kunwar Lohtaksha Singh a resident of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh and Aditya Nathaniel Kujur a resident of Bhilai district in Chhattisgarh. During interrogation, the accused said that they were working on the instructions of a youth from Bihar. The arrested accused were produced in the court and remanded to police custody.

Falling prey to the trap of cyber fraudsters, Ramkumar originally hailing from village Asan Khurd in Panipat district working in Thermal Plant received Wattsup call on his mobile phone from Patiala police that his son studying  B. Tech in Patiala as been arrested alongwith a friend in a gang rape case and demanded Rs 1 lakh to be remitted in a account through google pay, which was transferred in the account as desired. The caller identifying himself as a police officer got transferred total amount worth Rs 5 lakh threatening him to be required to be given to senior officers as well as medical officers involved in the case enabling to save his son to be arrested, when a case was registered with cyber police station on the complaint by Ram Kumar on 28th June.

Ramkumar disclosed that his son’s voice crying for help was also falsely created by the accused to convince him. The accused students caught in the cyber fraud during interrogation disclosed that the prime accused lives in Bihar, currently absconding from the police custody. It was on his advice that they joined the gang and used to sell their accounts, for this they are getting 3% commission calculated between Rs 25 to 30 thousand rupees in a day and the rest of the money used to go to the mastermind who lives in Bihar. According to the Cyber Crime SHO, the number from which Ramkumar received the call was from Pakistan suspecting that the gang had links with Pakistan as well and police trying for the arrest of the main accused living in Bihar targeting  people from more than 13 states in the country.
