Om tamso maa jyotirgamayo…take me from darkness to light

Ashwini Guru ji (Dhyan Ashram)

Diwali is the darkest night of the year and the night when it is easiest to access the power of light. Light here does not refer to lighting lamps but to the light of internal gyan, which illuminates the being. Most people spend the night lighting lamps in front of Goddess Lakshmi for ‘getting more and more wealth’ but the essence of Diwali lies in ‘give me wealth and detach me from it’ because all that is physical is nashvar (temporary)… it will go and when it goes it will give you immense pain. The more you have, the more the pain.

Think about it. The things that give you immense pleasure are also the greatest source of your pain. Those who love sweets are the ones who usually become diabetic. Those who deceive you or cause hurt to you are not strangers but the ones who are the closest to you. The wealthiest are the ones who are most tensed in their end time, unable to part with all they have collected and anxious and unwilling to make their will. This is the swaroop of maya. It keeps you entangled throughout your life only to leave you with just pain. One need to go beyond it to experience real pleasure and the night of Diwali is perfect for it.

The physical is governed by the energy world and each one of us has the potential to access these energies and create all that is physical. The choice is yours whether you want to run after physical or have it run after you instead. There is a specific mantra detailed in the Sanatan Kriya, ‘ka ee ai la hreem ha sa ka ha la hreem sa ka la hreem’, which when chanted along with lighting a lamp of cow ghee in front of the devi, bestows one with physical wealth as well as gives the route to exit maya. However, for any mantra to have desired effects, it is important to receive it from your Guru, who is siddha in the mantra and hence has the capacity to transfer it to you.

On the night of Diwali, there is a congregation of certain very powerful energies and it is said that the practices done on this night generate a thousand-fold return. Therefore, instead of waiting for Goddess Lakshmi to come to your house and shower wealth upon you, this Diwali try something different. Ask, but also give. Have fun, but also be prepared by asking for detachment from the physical.

May you all realise the full potential of the shakti on this Diwali…blessings.
