Gold worth Rs.1,50,32,167 seized by Customs Department

Amritsar, November 24 – The Customs department have seized 24 Kt. Gold at Shri Guru Ramdas International Airport which was smuggled here from Dubai.

Ina official statement issued here today, Custom official said that Saturday on November 23,  a passenger who was travelling from Dubai to Amritsar by Spice Jet Airlines Flight No. SG-56 was intercepted by the officers at around 8.30AM at Amritsar Airport on the basis of his suspicious behaviour.

Official further stated that on the basis of suspicion having concealed any contraband or dutiable goods with him he was served a notice under Section 102 and personal search of the passenger was conducted in presence of two independent Panchas which resulted in to recovery of gold in paste form (four pouches) totally weighing 2674 gms (gross weight) which were concealed in his underwear and knee straps tighten on his both legs. He further stated that the extraction process was conducted  and the paste was converted into two 24 kt gold bars weighing 1935.14 Grams (net weight) which is valued at Rs.1,50,32,167/-. The smuggled gold was seized under panchanama and a seizure memo dated 23.11.2024. The passenger was also placed under arrest 1.15 hrs on 24.11.2024 under Section 104 of the Customs Act, 1962. Further investigation is under process.
