After the the acquittal of Gopal Kanda of the Haryana Lokhit Party and also a member of the Haryana State Vidhan Sabha assembly from Sirsa, in the high-profile Geetika Sharma suicide case recently now have opened new political opportunities for the businessman-turned-politician, which now could have a turning point for his political career once again with entry into politics. Lone MLA of his political party from Sirsa in Haryana state, Gopal Kanda possesses the quality to attract high command of any party, as such he was near and dear to Om Parkash Chautala when he was chief minister Haryana, he was sincere and dear to Bhupinder Singh Hooda former Haryana chief minister and became Home Minister in the state during Congress role.
It cannot be denied the role of Kanda after the 2019 Vidhan Sabha election results to bring Bharatiya Janata Party in the state which fell short of majority in the 90-member House in the state. The two-time Sirsa MLA Gopal Kanda continued to extend unconditional support to the state BJP all these years and voted for the party’s candidates for President, Vice-President and the Rajya Sabha. Needless to say Kanda will prove an asset for BJP to find a political foothold in Sirsa constituencies with the aid of his local standing in the area. His elder brother Gobind had joined the BJP in 2021 to contest the Ellenabad bypoll on his party’s symbol but failed to win this seat in a close contest. During recent Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s rally at Sirsa, Kanda brothers had played an important role in gathering the crowd for the success of this rally as admitted by BJP itself. Kanda is known as near and dear to Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khatter also and there are chances of Haryana Lok Hit Party to be merged in BJP anytime prior to 2014 polls, besides holding a responsible position in the party.
Information reveals, after his acquittal now Kanda will try to expand his political presence beyond Sirsa and also stand a chance of being rewarded with a position in the Haryana government. According to the present political scenario of the five assembly seats in Sirsa district, two each are held by the Congress and the Independents, and one by the Indian National Lok Dal with the BJP drawing a blank at present. The BJP, however, hopes to change the political presence in the coming assembly poll with the support of Kanda brothers having strong hold in the area. According to Gopal Kanda’s near and dear ones, the court verdict has come at a time with less than a year to go for the Lok Sabha poll followed by the assembly election when the BJP is hunting for partners in the State, especially a powerful winning candidate. While talking to media persons Gopal Kanda said that it was unfortunate for him to be implicated in the case in-spite of fact there was not a single evidence against him. He refused to comment anything in this respect saying “the honorable court has given the decision in my favour and I have full faith in the court as well as God”.
