Govt calls all-party meeting on Sept 17, only a day before Parliament’s special session

New Delhi: The central government has called an All Party Meeting on September 17, Special Session of the Parliament will start from the next day itself. The Modi government called for an all-party meeting before the first session of the new parliament building. According to the sources, the topics of the special session can be discussed in this all-party meeting. 

The Center has called a Special Session of Parliament from September 18 to September 22. But the Modi government is still tight lipped about what issues will be discussed in that special session. Naturally, there is no end to the speculation surrounding that session. It is rumored that the Uniform Civil Code Bill will be introduced in that session. Sometimes it is heard that the name change of the country may be discussed in that special session. Some sources saying that Women Reservation Bill can be tabled.

The opposition has repeatedly protested the calling of this special session. After the decision to convene the session became public, Congress MP Sonia Gandhi wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the agenda. She asked that the public issues like economy should be discussed keeping in mind price rise for discussion in the special session. She has also written that Government should talk about minimum support price (MSP) and farmers’ problems, discuss the demand for a joint parliamentary committee on the Adani case, highlight the situation in Manipur, discuss the climate of communal unrest in states like Haryana, state the government’s position on Chinese aggression, speed up the nation. Surveys should be discussed, Centre-State relations should be highlighted and flood situation of different states should be discussed.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi tweeted on Wednesday that an all-party meeting has been called on September 17, after the tweet came from Trinamool’s Derek O’Brien and Congress’s Jairam Ramesh regarding the Agenda of the said meeting. However, no information about the content of the meeting was disclosed.
